Thirty years ago, two brothers with only two fermenters made an everlasting impact on the craft beer landscape. Not only did they shake up the Portland beer scene, but they created an entirely new, officially recognized beer style in the process. The brothers were Kurt and Rob Widmer and the beer is the wildly popular Hefeweizen from Widmer Brothers Brewing. The significance of this beer is finally being officially recognized as The City of Portland declares May 15th as Hefe Day in honor of it’s 30th anniversary.
