It’s not often Chuckanut Brewery makes their Baltic Porter but this year their unusual Baltic Porter will be tapped in the bar at 601 W. Holly St., Bellingham on April 3 at 5:30 p.m. This is a rich lager beer, even though the name is Porter (an ale). The inspiration for the Baltic Porter comes from those brewers living in the Baltic Sea area who were inspired by the Imperial Russian Stouts and English Porters.
Chuckanut’s Baltic Porter is lagered for more than nine weeks at cold temperatures creating a smooth, rich beer full of roast malt and dark sugar flavors. Full bodied with hints of chocolate, dried fruits, and coffee this complex lager is easy to drink. This year’s Chuckanut Baltic Porter has 8.2% ABV and IBU’s of 35. A great beer to accompany roasted meats and sausages the malt sweetness also makes this a great dessert beer, especially with anything chocolate!
