Flying Saucer Draught Emporium Teams Up With Pints for Prostates

The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium is teaming up with Pints for Prostates during a four week “Ultimate European Beer Tour” promotion designed to reach men through the universal language of beer. The 16-location beer pub group will generate prostate cancer awareness from June 3 to July 24 that will culminate in a drawing for a beer trip for two to Prague, Bamberg, Cologne and Brussels.

Flying Saucer will raise funds during the month of June to support the Pints for Prostates awareness mission. Each Wednesday as part of its popular “Brewery Night,” the Flying Saucer will feature a different classic European beer or style of beer with the brand’s signature logo glassware.  At 7p.m., 144 people at each location will be able to get the glass of the week and a pour of the featured beer for a great price, with the price of the glass going to support Pints for Prostates. Each glass will come with a raffle ticket for a drawing for an Ultimate European Beer Tour to the Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium taking place Oct. 8-18, 2015.

“This is the fourth year we are teaming up with Pints for Prostates and we are excited to be working with them on this company-wide awareness celebration,” said Keith Schlabs of the Flying Saucer. “Our ‘Beerknurds’ are excited to support a great cause and have the chance to win a beer adventure of a lifetime.”

The special Pints for Prostates Ultimate European Beer Tour is organized by BeerTrips.com. The raffle includes round trip airfare for two from the continental U.S.; nine nights lodging in Prague, Bamberg, Cologne and Brussels; tours of famous breweries; escorted beer hall crawls; guided city tours; stops at castles and monastery breweries; breakfast daily, four beer dinners and four beer lunches; and private coach transportation. For a $10 donation for a single ticket, $25 donation for three tickets or $50 for seven tickets, Flying Saucer patrons can obtain additional entries in the drawing. The total value of the trip for two is estimated at $9,000. The drawing will be held in early July at the Flying Saucer’s Charlotte location. The prize is non-transferable and no cash substitute will be offered. The winner and their guest are responsible for obtaining passports and all trip related costs not outlined above. You must be 21 years old to enter. No purchase is necessary.

Beer brands supporting the promotion at The Flying Saucer will vary by location and date.

“It is great to be working again with The Flying Saucer Draught Emporium because they enable us reach thousands of men with a lifesaving message about the importance of early detection,” said Rick Lyke, a beer journalist who had successful prostate cancer surgery in 2008. “BeerTrips.com has put together the Ultimate European Beer Tour to some of the great beer destinations in the Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium. This is the beer trip of a lifetime and it is for a great cause.”

BeerTrips.com has been providing unique beer travel experiences to destinations around the world since 1998. This special Pints for Prostates group tour is limited to a total of 16 slots. The tour will be hosted by Lyke, the Pints for Prostates founder and a drinks journalist who has been writing about beer, wine and spirits for more than 30 years. He has visited Europe numerous times. Pints for Prostates is a 501(c)3 charity that reaches men through the universal language of beer with an important health message.

“Men are 33 percent more likely to develop prostate cancer than women are to have breast cancer, yet few men know about the critical importance of early detection,” Lyke said. “The support of the Flying Saucer helps us reach an audience that needs to hear our message.”

New North Carolina Brewery Opens

May 27, 2015 (Asheboro) Four Saints Brewing Company (FSBC) announces the opening of its doors to the general public in downtown Asheboro on May 8, 2015. Andrew Deming and Joel McClosky, who after home brewing decided to take their shared hobby to the next level, have achieved the long anticipated realization of their dream to establish Randolph County, NC’s first microbrewery. Deming serves as COO and Head Brewer. McClosky is the company’s CEO.

An Asheboro-Randolph Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony held on May 27 celebrated successful soft and grand openings of the establishment, held on the weekends of May 8 and 15, respectively.

Before the idea became a bricks and mortar business, FSBC became the most successful Kickstarter campaign for a brewery on July 1, 2012, surpassing its goal of $45,000 by over $7,000 with the support of 263 backers. On December 5 of that same year, Four Saints Brewing Company announced the future location of its microbrewery as 218 South Fayetteville Street in downtown Asheboro. The day also marked the 79th anniversary of the end of prohibition — a fact the fledgling business owners used to promote their endeavors.

Taproom hours of operation are currently Wednesday and Thursday 4-10 p.m., Friday 3-11 p.m., Saturday 2-11 p.m. and Sunday 1-6 p.m. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. When special events occur in Bicentennial Park, located directly behind the venue, they adjust their hours of operation to complement the event.

Draft selections for on premise pint sales as well as off-premise 32-oz. and 64-oz. growler sales are currently available in six styles. Included are Omie Blonde Ale, Hefeweizen, Potter’s Clay Amber Ale, Bitter Brothers ESB, Genesis Belgian Dubbel and Stout One Stout. In addition, FSBC is currently brewing You Asked for It Session IPA, Soon-to-be-Named Double IPA and, in a special collaboration with Southern Pines Brewing Company, Southern Saints India Wheat Ale.

Patrons can also purchase prepackaged NC snacks, including Gone Jerky of Winston-Salem, Hops+Nuts of Greensboro, Chad’s Carolina Corn of Archdale, Happy Mountain Foods Trail Mix out of Boone and fresh made hummus or pimento cheese from Bia’s Gourmet Hardware of Asheboro. Bringing in food and having food delivered are also encouraged. Currently, FSBC has delivery menus from Bia’s Gourmet Hardware, Time Square Pizzeria’s downtown location and The Flying Pig. Additional delivery menus will be added in the near future. A variety of non-alcoholic canned and bottled beverages are also available for purchase.

“We want our guests to feel at home. We are striving for a neighborly, community atmosphere, which is why we’ve adopted a child and pet friendly policy. We want to see entire families, friends and neighbors gather here to laugh, celebrate and connect with each other,” explains McClosky.

FSBC currently offers limited self-distribution within a 30 mile-radius of the brewery. Establishments that wish to carry FSBC selections are also welcome to pickup kegs from the brewery.

Four Saints Brewing Company is committed to small batch, hand crafted beers that resonate the beauty of local, regional and state communities. It intends to be one of the best craft beers in North Carolina. And, just like its patron saints of beer and brewing—St. Augustine, St. Luke, St. Nicholas and St. Wenceslas—it is fully committed to supporting the local communities to make the world a better place. Four Saints Brewing Company uses locally grown ingredients and locally made accessories to the fullest extent when possible.

Started Small and Dreaming Bigger!

Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. is on the edge of branching out from its nano-brewery status.  Three years ago, brothers Steve and Chris Acord along with Steve’s wife Sharon ventured into the craft beer industry.  Brewing double batches on their SABCO Brew-Magic 1/2 bbl brew house every night for the first 10 months was no easy task, given each of them continue to hold down full time jobs on top of this, but that was not going to stop them doing what they love to do, and that’s brew great Northwest ales.

Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. started over exactly that…a “dirty bucket”.  Brewing in the garage and pondering the idea of creating a place where we can share their beers and passion for creating them. After they took that leap of faith towards brewing as a profession they needed a name. Holding true to their Home Brewing roots the name Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. was tossed up and the more they thought about it the more they realized there truly was no other name that better describes their passion.

Today Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. just added their 4th and 5th 7 bbl tanks and soon they will be adding an 8th.  Along with 15 wooden casks Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. looks to exceed the 1000 bbl annually mark this year.

New for 2015 Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. will be releasing their Dirty Barrel Collection.  A collection of amazing beers that have been aging in wood casks ranging from Bourbon, to Syrah.  These unique ales will be available beginning this fall at the brewery in 750 ml bottles only.

Steve says, ” I am excited to see the growth of our brewery and also seeing what lies ahead, we will just continue to do what we love to do, and ensure our passion is visible in every batch. To quote Sam Calagione’s book, Brewing Up a Business, we are Starting Small and Dreaming Big, and that quote is painted on the back wall of our original brewing location.”

Making Mead: Heat or No Heat? - via AHA

A “hot” area for debate in the mead making community is whether or not to treat the honey with heat as a means of pasteurization because of the risk of contamination from wild yeast and bacteria. Recently, it has become widely accepted to avoid any sort of heat treatment of honey, either before or after purchasing, because it is said to drive off flavors and aromas that could be in the final product. For this reason, it is becoming more and more popular to forgo any sort of heating when preparing the must (unfermented mead).

In many mead recipes and mead making books, it calls for the honey to be boiled in a gallon or two of water for 15-30 minutes as a means of sanitation. Some still prefer to treat with lower levels of heat, while others use methods that avoid heat all together, but for many the boil method has become somewhat of the “way of the past.”

The following methods can be used in lieu of boiling when treating honey for making mead.

Low Heat Pasteurization

With the same preparation as you would take if planning to boil honey as mentioned above, a low-heat pasteurization can be utilized that does not bring the honey-water mixture to a full boil. This lessens the amount of precious honey aromatics that are blown off during a full boil, but any amount of heat will cause some dissipation of honey character.

For this method, bring the honey-water mixture to 150° F (66° C) and hold for 5 minutes, or to 140° F (60° C) and hold for 22 minutes. The lower heat method for 22 minutes is recommended if pursuing this technique.

No-Heat, Sulfite

Potassium metabisulfite, also referred to as “meta” or “sulfite,” is a chemical additive that can be used to sanitize must without the need for heat. Sulfite is popularly used by homebrewers, cider- and meadmakers in the form of Campden tablets. Generally speaking, 1 tablet per gallon of traditional mead should be used for pasteurization while up to 2 tablets per gallon of mead containing ingredients like fruit is advised.

Sulfite can bleach out the color of some fruits and ultimately affect the final color of a mead, which may be undesirable. There is also some concern that sulfites may cause reactions with asthmatics.

Au Naturel

Recent data and experience from notable meadmakers has developed a third option for preparing honey must, which is doing nothing at all. Simply clean and sanitize every piece of equipment thoroughly, mix the ingredients in your carboy, pitch the yeast, aerate and let it go. No form of sanitizing the must is used in this mead making technique.

It is believed that the wild yeast and bacteria in the honey will not be able to put up a fight against the amount of yeast being intentionally pitched, and thus are not a concern. If wanting to avoid any heat pasteurization as well as chemical additives, this is the method to pursue, but exceptional cleaning and sanitation is essential to success.

This technique is growing in popularity since it sets up mead must to be full of honey character with many meadmakers never running into any contamination issues.

Brewniversity: College Classes Filling Beer Glasses

Beer lovers might think the working life of a professional craft brewer would be the ultimate laid-back dream job, but in fact it’s a surprisingly technical and complex vocation. As the craft beer industry has gone from burgeoning to booming, it’s become more sophisticated and more competitive—and that means sharper brewing, better beer and more complicated business dealings.

Behind the widening array of craft beers on the shelves is a growing need for savvy beer professionals to staff new and expanding craft breweries, as well as an increase in entrepreneurs looking to start their own breweries. Consequently, a bevy of new educational opportunities exist for those who want to learn to navigate this changing landscape.

While a handful of universities have offered degrees in “fermentation science” for some time, the last few years have seen an explosion of seminars and programs aiming to provide attendees with a highly concentrated dose of classroom theory and real-world practicum tailored for the beer industry. However, when it comes to the quality of these programs, not all opportunities are created equal.

Technically Speaking

According to a 2014 survey of members of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, 85 percent of respondents listed lab skills as the most sought-after qualification in brewing applicants. Lab skills, combined with technical brewing expertise, are fundamental to the success of craft beer.

While ancient Sumerians believed fermentation to be a magical process controlled by deities, we know it today as the exacting science it is. As craft breweries grow in numbers, so too grows the pressure to make consistently great beer. Consumer-driven quality standards mean breweries without a well-educated brewing team will lose money, time and valuable branding through bad batches, poorly executed packaging and other technical errors. Without education, they are doomed to repeat this cycle.

The University of California now offers one of the most rigorous programs of its kind—the Master Brewers Program. The intense, 18-week program delves into the science behind beer and is held at the UC Davis Extension classroom at Sudwerk Brewing Company. It ultimately prepares students to take professional qualification exams, enter the brewing workforce or advance beyond their current brewery job.

One of the program’s instructors, Dr. Charles Bamforth, is also the president of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling and a member of the MBAA Higher Education Committee, which has recently handed down educational guidelines for newly-created programs of this nature.

By focusing on the math, chemistry, biology, physics and engineering of brewing, experiences like the Master Brewer Program offer serious students of beer the opportunity to better themselves—and their resume—to enter or advance into the craft beer industry. Students also have the peace of mind knowing they’re learning under the tutelage of one of the country’s most hallowed science and research universities.

Theoretical Meets Practical

Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado, which is known for its respected hospitality program, plans to unite the classroom and the brewhouse through professor Michael Wray’s Incubator For Brewing Industry Operations. It brings together the university and the newly re-opened Tivoli Brewing Company with the construction of a medium-scale brewpub providing “integrated instructional and operating facilities in one location,” according to a university press release.

Giving students the chance to learn in a working brewery will afford a unique best-of-both-worlds opportunity. They’ll reap the benefits of classroom theory along with hands-on application in one of America’s beer-iest cities. Through exposure to the many facets of the working brewpub, students will receive a holistic view of what it takes to run a brewing business. While the courses offered through the incubator will eventually lead to a degree through the university’s hospitality department, the expressly educational purpose of the new brewpub/classroom facility ensures the program marries the theoretical and the practical in ways previously unseen.

Better Beer, Balanced Books

Oregon State University now provides a variety of short-term seminars for both brewers and entrepreneurs through its Northwest Beer and Cider Sessions. OSU’s Craft Brewery Startup Workshop is for entrepreneurs, while several technical sessions about quality analysis and testing are meant for those looking to become better brewers or more knowledgeable stewards in the market.

Program coordinator Johanna Lounsbury and others at OSU saw a disconnect between the energy of startup breweries and their eventual economic viability. She says the Craft Brewery Startup Workshop was designed to temper the ungrounded fervor of entrepreneurship in this growing industry.

“The Workshop can be thought of as an inexpensive reality check,” Lounsbury explains. “A brewery founder will easily spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on startup. Why not invest $1,275 on education that can inform decision making in the startup process?”

When competition is high and the market continues to be crowded, opportunities like this can be the difference between boom and bust. However, Lounsbury warns against so-called “pop-up programs without much of a track record.” She says this means sticking with programs associated with universities that have a history of producing high-quality education, like Oregon State has been doing for more than 20 years through its fermentation science program.

In the same way that unrealistic business plans can lead to start-up failure, ill-conditioned technical skills can break a brand before the beer even gets to the shelves.

Tom Shellhammer, an Oregon State University professor of fermentation science and MBAA Higher Education Committee member, helped develop the curriculum for the technical sessions so that professional brewers could take advantage of educational opportunities from one of the most revered fermentation science programs in the nation.

Shellhammer also implores prospective attendees to use discretion when picking an educational program. “In my opinion,” he wrote in an email, “not all [programs] are equal in terms of capabilities, rigor, staff education.” Like the UC Davis program, Shellhammer’s sessions feature instructors from both academic and industry backgrounds.

Looking Forward

By choosing programs associated with respected institutions, students can ensure they are learning valuable information and honing their technical skills in a way that will actually benefit them. No longer is a four-year fermentation science degree the only path to a brewing education.

This move towards standardized shorter-term education signals the continuing sophistication of a vibrant market. With more opportunities for brewers to learn to brew better beer, and for entrepreneurs to ground their business plans in sound, unbiased advice, craft beer’s quality and the vitality of the industry can continue to evolve and thrive.

Honey Vanilla Wheat in Cans - via Due South Brewing

While the majority of the country gears up for the official start of summer, the crew here at Due South knows the season is already in full swing. That means our Honey Vanilla Wheat is hitting taps throughout South Florida to cater to those who desire a beer which cuts the humidity with a knife.  This summer we have decided to debut the brew in 12 ounce cans.  These convenient 6 packs allow anyone hitting the beach, pool, or lawn mower a chance to beat the heat.

Honey Vanilla Wheat is a light bodied American wheat ale with a sunny golden color and it utilizes freshly cut Madagascar Vanilla beans and South Florida local Palmetto Honey.  A mildly floral nose carries over into the taste with bready like malt notes and a slight sweetness.  The crisp finish quenches your thirst in a nature as satisfactory as a cannonball into the pool on a 95 degree day.

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse Releases Summer Seasonal Lager

Loveland, Colorado May 27 , 2015– Adding to the seasonal lager series, Grimm Brothers releases Briar Rose, a Helles lager, on May 30th. In German, “helles” denotes something light, bright or blonde, all perfectly describe the beer which will be released each Summer. This is the fourth beer in the seasonal lager series which already includes Maiden’s Kiss, a Helles Bock released in Spring, Farmer’s Daughter, a Oktoberfest released in fall, and Midnight Strikes, a Schwarzbier released in Winter.

The Grimm Brother’s tale Briar Rose, tells the story of a young princess who was cursed by a fairy. At 15 she was wounded by a spindle and went into a hundred year sleep with a hedge of thorns surrounding her castle. After the hundred years had passed and many princes had come and tried to break through the thicket a new prince came and saw nothing but beautiful flowering shrubs, through which he went with ease, he found Briar Rose sleeping and with a kiss broke the spell. The new art by artist Josh Emrich, depicts beautiful Briar Rose asleep surrounded by the flowering hedge of thorns.

Briar Rose is a well-balanced beer with a slightly sweet malty profile and enough hop bitterness in the finish to dry the palate. It is available on draft and in bottles in the Grimm Brothers taproom, in bottles at local liquor stores, and on draft at select accounts.

About Grimm Brothers

Grimm Brothers Brewhouse was founded in 2010 by avid homebrewers captivated by the rich tradition of European beers. They knew that the long history of beer production in Germany and surrounding areas would give them plenty of tales to share with their customers.  Inspired by the stories collected by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, they crafted their beers to tell not only the story of Craft Brewing, but the harrowing and dark tales handed down through the generations. Grimm Brothers operates a tap room at 623 N. Denver Ave., Loveland, CO offering their beer for on premises consumption and carry-out sale.

Great Divide Brewing Company Celebrates 21st Anniversary and Expansion

Denver, Colorado– Great Divide Brewing Company will host their 21st Anniversary Party on Saturday June 13th, 2015 from 2-6pm at the site of their new location in Denver’s River North neighborhood. The party will feature unlimited access to Great Divide beers, live music, outdoor games, and the first public tours of the new production facility. The first phase of the brewery’s expansion– which includes a Barrel Bar, warehouse, and canning line– is set to open this summer. The original location on Arapahoe Street will continue to function as the company’s primary brewery and taproom.

To celebrate turning 21 and launching the first phase of their expansion, this will be Great Divide’s biggest party yet. Performances from Brent Cowles, Oakhurst, A. Tom Collins, and the Gin Doctors will take place throughout the afternoon while attendees enjoy the full Great Divide beer lineup, including a number of specialty and limited release offerings. In addition to a vertical tasting of Old Ruffian, throwback beers, and Yeti floats, there will be five rare sour beers, including the yet-to-be-released 21st Anniversary American Sour Ale, brewed specifically for this year’s event.

This American sour is a celebration of 21 years of brewing with Bold Character. This commemorative release opens up with bright, tart, kiwi and citrus notes before mellowing out with a hint of oak and subtle white wine-like character. Soured with lactobacillus and brettanomyces and aged for 9 months in wine barrels, 21st Anniversary is notably complex while retaining a delicate approachability.

Tickets are on sale now at http://ift.tt/1AuQoTD.  A $40 ticket provides unlimited tastings of the Great Divide lineup, live music, a generous snack at one of the food trucks on-site, free bike valet provided by Bike Denver, and a commemorative and reusable stainless steel pint. Tickets will most likely sell-out, but if available they will be $45 at the door.
###
Great Divide’s beers have landed an impressive amount of acclaim, earning 18 Great American Beer Festival medals, 5 World Beer Cup Awards, and 14 spots on BeerAdvocate’s “Top Rated Beers: Colorado” (2015). RateBeer.com named Great Divide among the “Top Brewers In the World” (2014), the “Top Brewer in Colorado” (2013), and 12th on their list of “Best Brewers In The World” (2013). Here at Great Divide, Bold Character isn’t just a catchphrase. It’s the philosophy behind what we brew, how we think and what we believe.

4 Signs Washington D.C. Is a Burgeoning Beer Town

Washington D.C. isn’t always the most popular place. Tourists are flocking to the museums and the jobs are plentiful, but you can’t escape the disdain in people’s voices when they mention the nation’s capital. It may have something to do with Congress’s 19% approval rating (up 5% from April 2014!) and overall skepticism that anything will be accomplished before the 2016 presidential election brings the city to a grinding halt.

Yes, all of those things are issues, but you’ll be surprised to hear that Washington has significantly more going for it than what is happening in that dome on the hill. So take a break from the politics and focus on beer, yes beer.

Washington, D.C. has a burgeoning craft beer and brewing scene, and it is changing the culture of the city. Long gone are the days of the three martini lunch, they’ve been replaced with tap take overs, local craft brewery happy hours and a growing interest from members of Congress about how craft breweries are impacting local economies.

Here are four signs craft beer is having a big impact on the nation’s capital.

1. SAVOR®: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience | June 5-6
The ultimate experience of pairing craft beer and food with more than 70 small and independent U.S. craft brewers sharing their beer paired with food. Since its inception in 2008, SAVOR has been in Washington D.C. every year except for one and the people of the city are wild about it. This year’s event is sold out, but latecomers can enjoy tons of events happening around town that surround SAVOR. You can expect tap takeovers at a range of venues from well-established beer bars like Churchkey and Jack Rose, to Capitol Hill staples like the Capitol Lounge.

2. A booming craft brewing scene.
Five years ago D.C. didn’t have any micro-breweries, but that has all changed. Today there are nine breweries and brewpubs in the city with eight more in planning. Beer is quickly becoming the go to drink of the public and private sector. Capitol Hill staffers spend their Saturday’s buying growlers and networking at local breweries. The breweries themselves have embraced their proximity to the nation’s capital, and you can see it reflected in their choice of names like D.C. Brau’s IPA collaboration with Oskar Blues “Smells Like Freedom” and Port City’s session IPA “Ways and Means.”

3. The Small BREW Act
Legislation that would positively affect small brewers is being discussed on Capitol Hill on a daily basis. Thanks to consumer demand, an array of choices, job creation and growth craft brewing is a popular subject in Washington, D.C. Everyone has their favorite local brew from the state or Congressional District that they represent and visiting a brewery during district work weeks is quickly becoming the photo-op of choice. Craft brewing has a lot of fans and a lot of good will, and it is important we make it work for us. The Small BREW Act would lower the federal excise tax on the first 60,000 barrels to $3.50/barrel and $16 from 60,000-2 million annually for American craft beer. Maybe beer and politics do have a future.

4. Baseball

It’s the 10 year anniversary of baseball returning to Washington, D.C. and everyone is invited to celebrate with a cold beverage. The Nationals may be the youngest team in the league, but they are already considered one of the top stadiums in the country for craft beer. Multiple “District Draft” locations throughout the ballpark feature local breweries like Hardywood Park , 3 Stars, Atlas and Flying Dog, to name a few. Sam Adams has even gotten in on the action, with an exclusive IPA celebrating the Nat’s tenth year in D.C. Grab a game day ticket and take a tour of D.C.’s local breweries in between innings.

So, maybe there is a little politics involved, but hopefully you are convinced that D.C.’s craft beer scene has a lot to offer.

Katie MarisicKatie Marisic is the Federal Affairs Manager at the Brewers Association, the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent American craft brewers. Based in Washington, D.C. Marisic plans and executes legislative, regulatory and political strategies to drive the Brewers Association’s federal affairs presence on Capitol Hill.

Widmer Brothers Hefe, Oregon’s Favorite Craft Beer

Kurt and Rob Widmer, co-founders of Widmer Brothers Brewing, helped lead the Oregon craft beer movement in 1984 when they began brewing unique interpretations of traditional German beer styles.

In 1986, Widmer Brothers introduced the original American-style Hefeweizen, which elevated the brewery to national acclaim. Since then, Hefe (pronounced: “hay-fa”) has grown to become the top-selling beer in Oregon – the epicenter of craft beer – and the brewery has continued to push the boundaries, developing beers with an unapologetic, uncompromised commitment to innovation.

Brewed with golden wheat, Hefe’s unique cloudy appearance, bold flavors, and citrus notes defined the American-style Hefeweizen. At 4.9 percent ABV, it’s also one of the original session beers and the perfect beer for the summer. Multiple awards and nearly three decades later, Hefe remains the gold standard and Oregon’s favorite craft beer.

This summer Widmer Brothers is introducing a new badge to celebrate their home state of Oregon and their flagship unfiltered wheat beer. Check in to at least one (1) Widmer Brothers Hefe this summer between today and Labor Day (May 28 - September 4th, 2015), and unlock the “Oregon’s Favorite Craft Beer” badge.

If you haven’t already, be sure to like Widmer Brothers on Untappd, and be sure to follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

PHILADELPHIA – Thinking & Drinking, the card game featuring 312 craft breweries from across the United States, has raised 66% of its goal with two weeks remaining in its Kickstarter campaign.

To date, Thinking & Drinking has raised more than $16,000 of its $24,000 goal. All raised funds during the Kickstarter are earmarked for the printing and distribution of the game.

“We really want to celebrate the craft breweries featured in this printing of Thinking & Drinking. The game is designed to be fun and to get people talking, but it’s also about supporting craft brewers,” said Jonathan Cooper, Thinking & Drinking’s founder.

The 312 breweries featured in Thinking & Drinking were selected as part of an open invitation to breweries across the United States. Breweries from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. are represented will be represented in Thinking & Drinking’s first printing.

“Craft beer is at the center of the conversations that are part of Thinking & Drinking,” said Cooper. “Our goal is have multiple printings of Thinking & Drinking so we can continue to highlight craft breweries.”

During the Kickstarter campaign, copies of Thinking & Drinking can be purchased for $10 for a single deck of cards or $30 for the complete set of six decks – which features all 312 breweries. Discounted taproom packages – six sets of the game – are also available for $150.
