San Diego, CA — December 8th, 2015 Karl Strauss Brewing Company just released the sixth edition of their “12 Days” annual holiday ale series. The series features complex, high alcohol, cellar-friendly beers with names that put a San Diego spin on the classic holiday tune “12 Days of Christmas”.
The goal of the series is to brew big beer styles that can be cellared and enjoyed in a vertical tasting. This year’s release, Six Suits A-Hangin’, is an Imperial Belgian-style brown ale brewed with a blend of caramel and brown malts and aged on French oak. The medium-bodied brew is packed with rich flavors of toasted malt, graham cracker, vanilla-like oak, peppery Belgian spice, and at 8.5% ABV has a smooth, warming finish. The name for this year’s edition was inspired by one of the tell-tale signs of a San Diego winter: the fullsuits of surfers hanging out to dry on balconies just like stockings over a fireplace.
Preceding beers in the series include Five Wee Heavy Bells Scotch on Scotch Ale, Four Scowling Owls Belgian Trippel, Mouette a Trois Holiday Fruitcake Ale, Two Tortugas Belgian Quad, and Parrot in a Palm Tree Baltic Porter. “Each of these limited release beers were brewed to improve with age with the hope that people will enjoy a bottle now and lay down another for years to come,” says Karl Strauss Brewmaster Paul Segura.
