Spangalang Brewery’s New Beer Honors Denver Broncos

Coloradoans share many passions, but two of them—craft beer and football—top the list.

Denver’s Spangalang Brewery has created a new beer in honor of the Denver Broncos and the upcoming AFC Championship game. The brew, christened “Orange Crushsicle,” will be tapped Friday, Jan. 22.

Orange Crushsicle is a session ale of just 4.3% ABV and contains orange juice, orange peel, and a slight dose of vanilla. Says Spangalang’s Darren Boyd, “It’s the beer equivalent of a Dreamsicle frozen treat. Local craft beer drinkers will love it, but it’s way too much for people from New England.”

In the spirit of generosity, Spangalang is setting aside a special keg of beer for the Patriot’s Tom Brady—so he has “something to enjoy while he wipes away the tears.”

Spangalang Brewery is a microbrewery in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood, opened in April 2015 by former Great Divide Brewery staffers Taylor Rees, Austin Wiley and Darren Boyd. They’ve already earned several “best new brewery” awards, as well as a medal at the Great American Beer Festival. Hopefully, their past wins and this special Broncos-dedicated brew will help influence the outcome of this Saturday’s game.

And when the Broncos win the AFC Championship, let’s hope that Tom Brady finds solace in his keg of Orange Crushsicle.

A recent transplant to Colorado from Detroit, she is enjoying exploring the local craft beer scene and learning as much as she can while at the Brewers Association. Her other interests include travel, reading, crocheting and outdoor adventuring—add craft beer to the mix, and she’s happy.
