Evolution Craft Brewing, Co. releases its Hand Picked Series from the brewery only this Friday. The Delmarva Peninsula has been known for fresh produce for centuries. The railroad that runs by the brewery hauled the bounty of the Eastern Shore up and down the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond. The train would stop by the ice plant that is now the brewery, to pack the produce with ice to protect it on its journey. This Hand Picked Series pays homage to those old days by using fresh fruit from our local farmers and the same pure water from the ice plant. We then barrel age our trappist-inspired Belgian-style pale ale with fresh peaches, brettanomyces and lactobacillus for a year while we wait for the next harvests to become available.
Our Hand Picked Series Raspberry Sour is our Belgian Pale Ale aged in port barrels for 16 months with 100 pounds of raspberries and Brettanomyces Lambicus. Fruit, oak and a bit of funk are prominent in the aroma. The ruby-colored beer is slightly tart and fruity balanced with oak character. The fruit was macerated in the beer for the duration of the aging.
The Hand Picked Series Peach Sour is our Belgian Pale Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis, Brettanomyces Lambicus and L. Brevis. We macerated more than a half bushel of peaches from Fifer Orchards (Wyoming, DE) per oak barrel. Resulting beer has a bright peach aroma with balanced acidity, fruit, funk, and oak in the flavor.
